Changbai Mountain Nature Reserve was founded in1960, which is the earliest established and most important nature reserves in China. It is a type of forest ecosystem and wildlife nature reserve. However, the study of the protection effectiveness of wildlife and the appropriate scale was rarely carried out since the establishment of the nature reserve. In recent years, the research about the conservation effectiveness of single species has been just started. So we conduct a preliminary study of wild animals conservation effectiveness and appropriate scale by field survey and analysis of wild animal survey data (transect survey’data in eastern and southern slope from1987to2013and northern slope from2000to2010provided by Mr. Piao Zhengji) during January’to Februarv and November to December in2012, the results showed that:(1)Wild boar, roe deer, blue ferret, weasel, sable and squirrel are common in the nature reserve. The footprints of other animals are difficult to encounter. The number of rodents and mustelidae is increasing, and the distribution range of them is extending.(2)In the east and southern slope, from1987-1999to2001-2005, the transects frequency’of weasel decreased, and other species were on the rise; the rate of average appears of roe deer, young ferrets, weasels, chipmunks declined, the othe species rose; the average met rates of roe deer, young ferrets, weasels, chipmunks declined, the rest of the species rose.From2001-2005to2006-2013, the transect frequency of weasel and sable was rising, and other species showed a downward trend; the average frequency of occurrence of red deer, wild boar, blue ferrets, chipmunks and flowers tail grouse declined and the other species rose; the average met rate of red deer, wild boar, young ferrets, chipmunks and flower tail grouse declined, and other species rose.(3) In the north slope, from2000to2010. the frequency occurrence of northeast rabbits and three Mustelidae animals increased, and the remaining species declined; the average frequency occurrence of wild boar, of northeast rabbits and three Mustelidae animals rose, and the remaining species declined; the average met rate of wild boar, northeast rabbits and three animals Mustelidae rose, and the remaining species declined.(4) From comparison results of the inside and outside nature reserve, the number of wildlife inside is larger than the number outside. There are more rodents outside the nature reserve due to the activity of human, which provide abundant food resources for the the Mustclidac animals, therefore the number of Mustelidae animals outside the nature reserve is more than that inside. Due to the rarely number of the northeast rabbit, the data error may become larger.(5)In Changbai Mountain Nature Reserve, the most suitable habitat of wild animals (class5) arc basically distributed in the northern slope of the western slope below the altitude of1.100m where is broad-leaved forest zone and coniferous forest zone. whose area is29109.803hm2in accounting14.786%of the Changbai Mountain Nature Reserve area; habitat of class4is the broadest.150023.770hm:. accounting for76.203%of the total area of the protection; the area of the habitat of class3is16010.366hm2. accounting for8.148%of the total area of the protection; the area of habitat class2is1389.636hm2. accounting for0.706%of the total surface of the protection:the area of habitat class1is309.22.hm2and accounting for0.157%of the total area of the protection. We believe that the suitable habitat for wild animals in Changbai Mountain Nature Reserve is the habitat of class4and5. whose area is179133.573hm;. accounting90.990%area of the total nature reserve.
