Objective:The essay has summed up the understanding of UC as viewed from traditional Chinese medicine and the research development of modern medicine, assessed efficacy of Wumei Wan through clinical research, providing new and effective drugs to cure the disease.Methods:1. Targets in this project were selected from the inpatients and outpatients in Changzhou TCM Hospital affiliated to Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine from January of2010to December of2011. All cases were confirmed by electronic colonoscope and belonged to Cold-Heat Complication as per the syndrome differentiation of TCM. The above-mentioned patients were randomly divided into treatment group with20members and control group with20members. There were no significant differences in the gender composition, age, disease course and seriousness of the disease between the two groups.2. The patients of treatment group were given Wumei Wan and Sulfasalazine while the patients of control group were asked to take Sulfasalazine4times a day,1g for every time, which lasted for2treatments and4weeks for each treatment.3. The clinical observation of the two groups were conducted, including the observation of clinical comprehensive efficiency, TCM syndrome efficacy, therapeutic effect of mucous membrane under endoscope and pathology efficacy, as well as the comparison of laboratory data of CD4+,CD8+before and after treating. Results:After the two treatments, TCM syndrome efficacy, therapeutic effect of mucous membrane under endoscope, pathology efficacy and comprehensive efficiency of treatment group are much better than those of control group, with statistic significance. The data of CD4+and CD8+in the two groups both have changed before and after treating. CD4+of the two groups both decreased after treating, while CD8+of the two groups both increased. The data changes of treatment group are greater than those of control group, which has statistic significance. Two of twenty patients in treatment group had light adverse effect while5of20patients in control group had light or medium adverse effect. Conclusion:The therapeutic effect of Wumei Wan with SASP is much better than SASP in curing UC. There is statistic significance in observation of clinical comprehensive effect, TCM syndrome efficacy, therapeutic effect of mucous membrane under endoscope and pathology therapeutic effect. The healing efficacy which combines traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine is obviously superior to the control group. The combination of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine is currently an effective method to cure UC, which is worth popularizing in clinical application.
