Primary hepatic carcinoma derives from hepatic cell and/orintrahepatic biliary epithelial cells. With gradually increasing fatality ratesecondary to gastric carcinoma and esophagus carcinoma in the digestivesystem malignancy, primary hepatic carcinoma ranks the fifth of alldeaths caused by malignant tumors worldwide. Despite major progressachieved in recent years in the surgical and chemical therapy of advancedhepatic carcinoma, the prognosis remains poor. Therefore, a combinedtherapy of Chinese traditional medicine with currently adoptedtherapeutic means might offer an alternative therapeutic strategy thatexhibit advantages in increasing survival rate and quality of life ofpostoperative patients.CTX is a compound of mechlorethamine and Phosphorus phenolicamine with a DNA and RNA interfering effect. Its cross binding withDNA chains inhibits DNA synthesis which is most prominent in S phase.CTX exerts strong therapeutic effect on benign and malignant tumors, however, its side effects of toxicity such as teratogenicity, myelosuppression and aleukocytosis limit its clinical application. Objectives: Investigate the effect of Xiaoliu Qudu Decoction ontumor weight, Thymus and spleen index and lymphocyte conversion inH22mouse hepatic cancer. Methods:5groups of H22mouse(50in total,10in eachgroup):negative control (saline), positive control (CTX), Xiaoliu QuduDecoction+CTXgroup (High, median and low dose). Negative controlgroup was administered saline (10ml·kg-1/day) intragastrically. Positivecontrol group was administered CTX (30mg·kg-1/day, intraperitonealinjection). Xiaoliu Qudu Decoction+CTX group was administeredXiaoliu Qudu Decoction (drug dosage is weight-dependent—30,2,10g·kg-1/day, repectively. Dispensed with saline and administeredintragastrically with concentration of10mlï¹'kg-1) and CTX((30mg·kg-1/day, intraperitoneal injection). Drug administration wascarried out once a day for10days. The experimental animals wereprocessed for tissue specimen (tumor, thymus and spleen.) weighing. Results: Average tumor weight is statistically significantly lower in CTX group and Xiaoliu Qudu Decoction+CTX group compared with negative group, and Thymus and spleen index is statistically significantly higher. Average tumor weight is statistically significantly lower in Xiaoliu Qudu Decoction+CTX group comparedwith CTX group, and Thymus and spleen index is statistically significantly higher. Tumor inhibition rate is statistically significantlylower in Xiaoliu Qudu Decoction+CTX group compared with CTX group, and Thymus and spleen index is statistically significantlyhigher. Conclusions:Xiaoliu Qudu Decoction+CTX can inhibit tumor growth, and boost immunity.
