In the early 1980s, the subject of Ethnomusicology began to spread into China and was widely recognized by the Chinese music scholars. In the course of nearly three decades of development, although the number of scholars researching on Shamanism culture increased gradually, while the research on Shamanism in Heilongjiang was rare. According to researching the process of Shamanism worship ritual, the paper attempts to explore the deep thoughts behind the behavior by choosing some surname as the Shamanism ritual main subject. The paper is entitled“the research on the ritual music of Zhao Shamanism Ancestor-worship in Mudanjiang Region”, one of four Manchu surnames—Zhao in Mudanjiang, Heilongjiang province is chosen as the research subject; through the theoretical research, field investigation and other means, the roles and functions of music in Shamanism ancestral ritual are explored; culture connation in culture insiders’brains is digged out, and the intrinsic cultural map is described as well.Based on the information (geography and history, population, social environment, etc) on Zhao Manchu in Mudanjiang region and the research on the overall process of Shamanism Ancestor-worship ritual, with the combination of practice and theory, the paper expounds from four points:Part I: Summary of Shamanism ancestor-worship ceremony. Based on researching the history of the Shamanism, the development process of the ancestor-worship ceremony is traced back, and the status of the Shamanism ancestor-worship ceremony in Mudanjiang area is also acknowledged.Part II: Ethnography of Zhao ancestor-worship ceremony in Mudanjiang. From a macro perspective, sum up the background of Zhao Shamanism worship ritual and give a brief explanation to the process, used artifacts, preservation and continuation status of Zhao Shamanism ancestor-worship ritual.Part III: Music in Zhao Shamanism worship ritual in Mudanjiang region. Started with the use of music and music patterns (including melodies, rhythm, dance, singing, etc) in Zhao Shamanism worship ritual, analyze the music in Zhao Shamanism worship ritual.Part IV: Cultural interpretation in Zhao ancestral ritual music. Sorting out and synthesizing the material collected through investigation and data obtained through book search and web search, according to analysis and comparison, the author preliminarily inquiries the unique cultural value behind these music phenomenon, and then explore deeper social connotation. This section focuses on roles the music play in worship ritual and researches of ideological level and aspects of the soul concept of the insiders.
