The Potala Palace is not only the famous traditional construction of Tibet, butthe essence works of Chinese ancient architecture. It is the historical and culturalheritage of Tibet treasure, also is an important part of the Chinese national culturetreasure.It was built in the seventh century. And now it is still on the roof of theworld–Tibet Plateau. Throughout its construction history, it throughout the Tibethistorical society for more than one thousand years, that is, from the Tubo Period tothe Qing dynasty. At the same time, the building has also witnessed the changes anddevelopment of the great historical Tibetan events since the seventh century.For long times of Tibetan history, the Potala Palace was recognized as thepolitical, religious and cultural center in Lhasa. And the Potala was the witness ofsome great historical events in Tibetan history. Therefore, the Potala Palace has notsingly been a Tibetan architecture. For more than one thousand years, it has changedand developed undoubtedly to be a Tibetan historical and cultural "museum", and ithas taken an important part in the history of Tibetan civilization.In recent years, Tibet tourism has developed rapidly by the booming enthusiasmon Tibetan culture. Thus, as the landmark construction of Tibet, the Potala Palace hasalso become the most ideal palace for the tourists to visit. To strengthen the researchon the Potala Palace, and to discover its historical culture, have important realisticmeaning and profound historic significance to carry forward and protect for Chineseexcellent culture.In this paper, the author tries to analysis the formation and development of thePotala Palace by the four parts: the name changes, the scale changes, the statuschanges, and the protection and inheritance situation. In the chapters of the paper, theauthor tried to put the changes and the development of the Potala Palace into theprocess of the important historical Tibetan events, thus, to refine the history andculture value that the construction carried.
