Along with the rapid development of China’s economic internationalizationprocess, Chinese culture has been accepted by more and more people around thew o r l d. T h e p o p u l a t i o n, s t u d y C h i n e s e i n C h i n a, i s i n s h a r pincreasing.As Xinjiang is a contact bridge between the Mainland and Central Asian countries, because of its geographical advantages and the growing of trade between Xinjiang and Central Asian countries in recent years, there is a boom of the Central Asian countries to learn Chinese.There are individual differences to the actual situationof the learners, the learning needs of Chinese are different. So understanding thelearning needs of Chinese learners plays a vital role in raising the level of theirChinese and the development of Chinese teaching as a second language in Xinjiang.There are individual differences to the actual situation of the learners, the learning needs of Chinese are different. So understanding the learning needs of Chinese learners plays a vital role in raising the level of their Chinese and the development ofChinese teaching as a second language in Xinjiang universities.This article followsthe concept of student-centered, relies on constructivist and humanistic theoriesinvestigate the study needs of different levels by questionnaires, interviews andobservation. Make further explore of potential learning needs of different classes oflearners by quantitative analysis of the questionnaire. The article’s analysis includesdifferent Chinese proficiency learners’ learning ability, individual wishes, and relatedneeds of the learning process and learning environment. Analysis of learning abilityincludes learners’ basic knowledge, basic skills and master and applying of basicstrategies; Analysis of individual wishes of the learners includes learners’ motivationand learners desire to improve the relevant language elements and verbal skills;Analysis of learning process includes the needs of ways for before-class learning,class learning and after-school learning.The analysis of learners’ learningenvironment includes needs of teachers, needs of classroom environment, demandsfor after-school environment, demands for textbooks and learning resources, needsof studying time and needs of the test form.Finally, the article appropriatescountermeasures and relevant recommendations according to the actual learningneeds of the Central Asian students.There are individual differences to the actualsituation of the learners, the learning needs of Chinese are different. Sounderstanding the learning needs of Chinese learners plays a vital role in raising the level of their Chinese and the development of Chinese teaching as a second languagein Xinjiang universities.
