On Transference Of Ideorealm In The English Version Of Fortress Besieged

Ideorealm, as a theoretical category in the traditional Chinese culture, has a profound culturalfoundation. It can be used to analyze the mingling of images and feelings in the aesthetics, thepsychology and the literature. Ideorealm can also be used to appreciate the beauty of poems andnovels. Ideorealm can be experienced by people with the combination of the objective story in thenovel and the readers’subjective feelings. Only when the readers understand the meaning of the novel,can ideorealm be got by the readers as the writer expected. It was a long history in the development ofideorealm in Chinese culture.Fortress Besieged was a wonderful writings in the 20th century. It was popular with itshumorous languages and vivid description. The reason that the novel Fortress Besieged is used toanalyze ideorealm here is that the novel can make the readers have some thoughts about the life andthe world. People are always looking for an ideal. Yet when the ideal come into truth, it is not just asperfect as the expected like the fortress besieged described in the novel. And then people are lookingfor a new ideal again, rush into a new fortress besieged.This thesis has separately analyzed creation of ideorealm, transference of ideorealm in the textand receptor’s acceptance of ideorealm. In the thesis, the key concepts as“ideorealm”,“image”, and“realm”all belong to the aesthetic categories. Ideorealm includes the meaning of image and realm.It emphasizes truth, goodness and beauty. Image refers to the objective settings, and realm refers tothe subjective spirit. On creation of ideorealm, the writer made the readers perceive the intellectuals’hypocrisy and the working people’s ignorance, the underdeveloped scenes in China during the wartime, and the association between marriage and the fortress. In the text in Fortress Besieged,ideorealm in this novel is analyzed statically by contrasting the images and the taste. The ideorealmcharacteristics are analyzed by the images appearing in the text. The ideorealm characteristics are asthe following: expressing abstract feelings using the concrete things, mingling the subjective feelingsand the objective settings, and pursuit of truth, goodness and beauty. The readers’imagination andassociation is attracted by the taste from the images. In the readers’acceptance from FortressBesieged, ideorealm in this novel is analyzed dynamically. Both the exactness of the imagedescription and the reader’s information background influences the readers’acceptance and integrityof feelings. The reception and expressing of ideorealm for the translators is very important in the translationworks. There are three processes in realization of ideorealm: creation of ideorealm by the writer;transference of ideorealm in the writings; reception of ideorealm by the readers.
