Directional Verbs are divided into two categories:simple words (such like lái来,qù去,huí回…) and compound words(such like guòlái过来,huíqù回去…). In this paper, thecompound directional complements that we studied and discussedact as the complements of the compound directional verbs.Cross-language survey indicates that a notable characteristicof Complement Structure is unique to the Chinese, which is oneoutstanding feature of Chinese. Since no such structure inother mother tongues of foreign students, it is not an easy taskfor this kind of structure to be accepted by the students. Thecompound directional complement is even more complex than othertypes of complement, therefore, the compound directionalcomplements teaching and learning has always been a difficulty.Yuehua Liu, the author of translation of the compounddirectional complement (1998),560thousand words. As you couldsee, the whole book with560thousand words is trying to explainone kind of words structure in Chinese; you could imagine thatthe difficulties in learning such a structure is unbelievableand complicated. There are two sections in this paper, the firstpart of the compound directional complements is the body studying, including the relationship of the compounddirectional complements and object position between thecompound directional complements’ meaning and its extendedmeaning. The second part is about the applied research, on thebasis of the structure’s body studying and convert its resultsfrom the studying into the materials that can be used forclassroom teaching results. This section includes erroranalysis from the mistakes that foreign students could haveever made, find the law of those errors and provide somespecific teaching suggestions based on the law.
