In the era of global economic integration, interpretation plays an increasinglyimportant role in international exchanges. The increasingly close cooperation amongnations has made interpretation one of the world’s most popular jobs. Because of thesefeatures, interpreters will have to overcome a lot of difficulties when doing interpretation.First, interpretation is an oral translation from one language to another, so the interpretermay come across cultural barriers. Second, interpretation is a highly particularlyinformation conversion activity, interpreters are supposed to give the information fluentlyin a very short period of time, and they may have grammar, vocabulary errors when theyare interpreting. In addition, interpreters must take site effect into consideration, having astrong impromptu responsiveness and superb producing capacity. Third, interpreters mayaccompany the guests here and there in various situations. Therefore, there may besituational obstacles as well.This paper will analyze liaison interpretation from three aspects. First, it gives a briefoutline of the research background, the purpose of this research and the significance of thisresearch. Part one presents the definition and some theories of liaison interpretation. It alsointroduces the current research status in china and abroad. In the second part, studies arefocused on the difficulty and failure in liaison translation combined with a case study. Thispart mainly gives the detail explanation through the special cases of interpreters’experiences. The possible difficulties in the process of liaison interpreting and thecountermeasures are discussed in the following part, which focuses on these problemsdiscussed above through collecting and analyzing certain amounts of data. In the third part,some advices on liaison interpretations are presented. Combined with literature review, ittries to give some tackling strategies to the barriers.To become an excellent liaison interpreter requires not only good English skills butalso a good knowledge of different countries and their cultures, ability to make quickresponses, clear expression and a good mentality. A study on the problems found commonin liaison interpreting and the coping tactics are quite necessary. For the new starters, theycan have an awareness of where and when problems occur and how to deal with themappropriately. And for the advanced liaison interpretation learners it gives them somereferences to turn to and may help them to improve their liaison interpreting skills as well.
