With the development and globalization of politics, economy and culture,intercultural communication becomes more and more frequently. And as an ancientand extensive intercultural communication activity, interpretation plays a key role inintercultural communication. People who have different cultural background andspeak different languages can communicate well through the interpretation.As a new form of interpretation, liaison interpreting plays a very important rolein today’s political, economic, trade and other fields. For a long time, people whomaster two languages can be regarded as competent interpreters, but till now,translation community gradually reach to a consensus that interpreting is not only theconversion between two languages but also the collision and coordination betweentwo cultures. A large number of facts prove that solving communication barrierscaused by cultural differences is more difficult than language barriers themselves.According to this, the paper focuses on how to solve the communication barrierscaused by cultural differences effectively in liaison interpreting.The main part of this article describes the connotation of liaison interpreting,culture and intercultural communication, as well as the relationship among them. Andthen the author leads to the key points of this thesis, which are the two communicationbarriers caused by cultural differences, one is verbal communication barriers and theother is nonverbal communication barriers. Then the author takes Eugene A. Nida’sfunctional equivalence theory as a guide, giving the readers some suggestions andstrategies on how to solve the barriers respectively. The end of the thesis is a briefconclusion of the above discussion, and at last the author points out the limitation ofthis article, and suggestions of further study.
