In Lukacs’later years, the Ontology of social being turns his early concern on methodology to ontology of the’totality’, focusing on the goal of reconstruction of the Marxist philosophy. In this course, the concept of social existence bears important theoretical mission, and meantime, the concept of labor is the basis of the ontology of social being. In the analysis of labor concept, Lukacs tried to complete the transcendence of positivist epistemology with the help of Hegelian logic. In the course of the social history, the labor being carefully expound to teleology setting and causal relationship which were intertwined, the subject and object being interacted, Lukacs finished kinds of explanations, including the freedom and necessity in the labor process, the social intermediary such as ideology, law, language accompanied by the introduction of ontology of labor, and expected to offer a solid theoretical and practical basis to reconstruct Marxist philosophy from the perspective of ontology by a comprehensive explanation of labor. However, along Lukacs’theoretical construction with deep exploration, you will find that there was a hidden recognition logic about’totality’in the process of comprehensive explanation and process analysis of the labor concept, which was composed of the dialectical relationship among materialization, reality and history. Just because of this dialectical relationship mentioned above, Lukacs completed a refutation of the traditional theory of reflection epistemology, positivism and idealism, and offered a new theoretical horizon on the introduction of the dialectical relationship between the freedom and necessity in the process of labor. But unfortunately, the labor concept, which finished its own construction under the manipulation of’totality’epistemology logic, was unable to complete that important task of offering a basis for reconstructing Marxist philosophy in the perspective of ontology as Lukacs expected.
