During the period of the May4th Movement, with the individual liberation movements, the modernChinese women’s liberation movement also raised. At the same time, the modern female literature alsobegan its development. The daughters of the May4rth movement failed to keep the dazzling aura whenthey completed the patricide task, and established their new female presence in treason, but ended hastily, began with another journey of life. In this journey, they devoted themselves to the family like their mothers. The only difference is that, there is a strong role conflict between the new female and the old role. Thisconflict also left a deep imprint in the writing of female.In1926, Chen Xuzhou who published an article titled" to men" on the" new woman" magazine, criticize that the obligations and rights are unequal for male and female in modern marriage. This viewcaused the strong interesting of Zhang Xichen et al who were the magazine editor. Then they launched adiscussion named “modern woman “in January1927, to discuss the contradiction of women between"attack on knowledge, reform social” and" talent as a wife and a mother “.The " new woman" has richintellectual resources, As a result, many cultural celebrities participated in the discussion, including someinfluential man of the new culture movement, such as Zhou Zuoren, Cai Yuanpei,Shen Yanbing etal.Through combing the about, the sponsors and participants of this discussion, and each opinion of thisdiscussion, it can be found that, most participants are more inclined to emphasize the women’sresponsibility consciousness but not right consciousness, and keep the identity of the women’ old role. Inorder to explore the origin of these viewpoints, this article take the representations of understanding wifeand loving mother and the propaganda of the Ellen Kay‘s feminist theory during the period of the May4th Movement for example, analysis its theoretic logic, and find out the ideology such as collectivismnationalism that hidden behind, and tries to take the deep factors of thought history which caused thewomen role conflict. Finally, the most important of this paper is to analysis the limitations of the womenwhich caused by psychological conflicts and ideological factors and the downs and breakthrough underlimitations. For this reason, I made case study of Chen Hengzhe, Bing Xin, Ling Shuhua, Lu Yinrespectively, and did a close reading of the their text.
