Clear Words to Illustrate the World is a famous collection of vernacular short stories inlate Ming dynasty, which have a great achievement of language. It not only reflects thefeature of language at that time, but also wear thick dialecty of the author. The language ofMing dynasty has a feature of connecting link as it is in the neoteric Chinese time whenOld Chinese, mediaeval Chinese transitting to modern Chinese. So we can have a view tolanguage in use of that time, meanwhile lead us to the decipline of guradually connectingto neoteric Chinese and modern Chinese. This essay choose the interrogative sentences inClear Words to Illustrate the World as a closed region and describe in detail, researchsystematicly with qualitative and quantitative means in synchronic and diachronic view.Moreover, we compare it with modern Chinese to announce the context of development ofthe system of Chinese interrogative senctences.We divide the essay in six chapters. Chapter1is an introduction of author, language,versions, the history and current situation of research of Clear Words to Illustrate the World;from chaper2to chapter5we discuss specific interrogations, yes-no interrogations,alternative interrogations and rhetorical questions. We divede specific types by expressingmethod, to realize the historic evolution, then analyse its linking feature of old Chinese,mediaeval Chinese and modern Chinese, reveal its dialecty of Wu accent. Chapter6is asummary of the essay: we get a conclusion on the basic of description and analysis of theinterrogations. Last but not the least, we take for that interrogations of Clear Words toIllustrate the World not only reflects the succession of language, but is also somewhat closeto modern Chinese; not only have its rounded system, but also wear dialecty of Wu accent;truly reflect the situation at that time in a certain degree.
