The word "gei" indicated "accord" in paleo-Chinese mainly. The mass of meaning of "gei" turned up in Qing Dynasty. Incorporating both synchronic approach and diachronic approach, the essay bases its reseach on a large amount of sentence with "gei", to point out the origin and developing course of each meaning, to compare the each course with others, to throw light on the reason of such developing. The essay object to the thesis that passive sentence with "gei" is the succession of passive sentence with "chi", to back up the thesis that passive sentence with "gei" derive from the "gei" indicated "accord" based on proof deduced from its reseach, to expound theory to throw light on the phenomena. Besides, the essay ameliorate the norm of award on the passive sentence with "gei".
