| The natural environment, social history, cultural characteristics and ethnic aestheticsof Diqing plateau is the natural ecology and background of Nixi earthenware, and endowNixi earthenware, a traditional manual pottery making process with3000years’ history,with some unique artistic characteristics.Nixi earthenware came into being and developed in Diqing plateau, so it closelyrelated to the local people’s life and work. It still remain some traditional features, suchas the product structure designed mainly for practical use, the decoration style stillembodied with distinctive regional expression, the craftsmanship inherited with shaftlessand slow jigger wheel forming, the firing method that burn ceramic on flat pile, theancient plain and clever, rough and delicate, dignified and elegant artistic style. TheNixi earthenware handicraftsman had acquired a good command of mould anddecoration in the long period of practice. They created some earthenware which perfectlycombined practice and aesthetics in indistinctive state.Various relevant factors make a difference in the formation and development ofearthenware’s artistic characteristics in different ways and depth. Experiencing thecreativity of Tibetans forefathers who manufactured earthenware can help us learn thedecisive function of nature, society and human beings, as well as inspire the futurecreation of earthenware. |
