Josef Hofmann,the representative of the art of playing the piano in 19th century,had a superb skill and a unique style of playing.He is known as the pianist who is the pink of perfection.As the earliest musician leaving recordings,he made a lot of recordings which made a great contribution to retaining the audio data of playing the piano by recording technology.He was a rare musician who persisted in carrying out classicism in the Romantic Period,therefore,he is also known as "the classical romanticist".Compared with the mainstream style in the early 19th century, Hofmann played the piano in a different way.As a music model who developed a school of his own in that period, he became the pioneer of creating a modern style.As an educator,he was the dean of the Curtis Institute of Music and trained a great many of excellent students.Being one of most influential pianists and the same character as a milestone in that period,Josef Hofmann’s contribution is undeniable.Having the epoch-making significance,his playing style and teaching ideas as well are worthy for us to learn and draw lessons from.
