As the main art form of the classic painting, the intellectuals’takea unique position in the area of Chinese painting. Seen from the past,the intellectuals’paintings relate closely to the intellectuals classthat have their own identity. However, if we want to study the startand development of the intellectuals’painting, we must study thepaintings and their creators themselves, and interpret the rise ofintellectuals and the establishment of this class. It was the Tongdynasty and Song dynasty that were the key period of the rise anddevelopment of the intellectuals’painting and also the generation ofthe intellectual class. This essay is the interpretation of the socialimage for the intellectuals’paintings and their rise and developmentduring Tong dynasty and Sing dynasty. Here, the writer doesn’t merelystudy the history art, or a certain work of a certain intellectual artist.Instead, according to the theory of Bourdieu, taking socialtransformation, political ecology, philosophy and social thoughts andsocial structure as the analysis framework, the writer thinks it isthese elements that promote this art form--- the intellectuals’painting,and also compose the whole social field. Under the social structuraltransformation, the political experience, social cognition and culture request are the carriers for the form of intellectual’s habitual behavior,and also they represent the icon choice of the intellectuals’painting.What the intellectuals did was only to construct the art field thatbelongs to the intellectual class, by which the intellectuals also fortheir unique habitual behavior, such as state of mind, cognition andbehavior choice. There for, the writer tries to explain the discussionamong scholars about intellectuals’painting, and also explain howthe intellectuals’painting started and developed, that is the uniquefield and their habitual behavior.
