With the development of the times people come to realized that language andculture are closely linked, language itself is a kind of cultural phenomenon, and is anintegral part of culture. We should not only master the language of the surface form,but also be familiar with the language and cultural connotations. With the mutualcultural exchange between the deepening and expanding, all the audience enjoy thescripts enrich their life and broaden their vision of the world one hand, on the otherhand, it becomes an important way to understand culture each other. Therefore,subtitle translation has become a new hot research object of translation.The biggest impact is Nida’s dynamic equivalence or functional equivalencetheory both at home and abroad. In last few years, the research of subtitle translationis increasing due to the rapid development of culture. This thesis try to use the Nida’sfunctional equivalence theory in many subtitle translation comparative study, let theaudience understand the film and foreign culture better.With other forms of translation, the history of film translation is very short, asthe most intuitive way of film translation, subtitle translation is only in virtue of thestage of experience and understanding. Therefore, it has a very important practicalsignificance into in-depth study on the film subtitles translation theory, strategy andmethod. Good subtitle translation is whether the translator can grasp the socialinfluence in the source language audience, and also understand the target languageaudience’s emotions and interests at the same time. It can be the better subtitle only inthis way. This thesis is just a rough discussion about the subtitle translation which thenew and special translation mode, hope to be able to cause the film subtitletranslators’ interest and pay attention to it, and make more effort in order to realizedthe function of intercultural communication. The theme of this thesis is that does theapplication of functional equivalence theory appropriate to subtitle translation.
