Chinese economy develops very quickly and China has been getting more and more opportunity in making decision on international big decisions. At this time, the cultural exchange between China and the world goes deeper than before. Both economy and culture of China become more and more international. As time goes on, the cultural soft power has become an important international competitiveness. Different country has different culture. The culture of different country is difference but they also have commonness in some place. The commonness of culture between different countries makes it possible to realize the cultural exchange. The process of translating is the process of cultural exchange. Today, the widest area of cultural exchange is film and TV industry. Nowadays, films from western country flow over into China and Chinese films are also carried to the western country. The way how to make the target audiences have the same understanding about the film as the original audiences is the key study of translation. Therefore, the study of subtitle translation should be paid more attention by the scholars. However, there are few scholars in China who are studying in this field while in western countries, there are already some works made by foreign scholars.There is still no systematical theory that can direct the study of subtitle translation,though some scholars have written some papers on it.This paper takes the functional equivalence as the main theory to analyze the subtitle translation of Zootopia which has just been released and achieves a great success in China. This paper will prove the importance of functional equivalence in the translation of subtitle. This paper includes three parts.The first part is the introduction which includes the background, the study of subtitle translation at home and abroad and the importance and significant of subtitle translation. After a large number of studies, the paper found that there are few study at home, while in abroad, this field has been paid much attention, a lot of researches have been made and some main theories is founded in this field.The second part is the practical part with many examples from the film. It includes three chapters: Chapter I is the literature review which includes the theories of subtitle translation and functional equivalence. Each theory has detail explanation in this chapter;Chapter II is the application of functional equivalence on subtitle translation of Zootopia from the aspects of omission, addition, condensation and paraphrasing etc. ; Chapter ?is the cultural equivalence in the subtitle translation of Zootopia. The paper, at first analyzes the importance role of culture in the process of subtitle translation. Then it proves the importance of culture equivalence in the process of translation by a large number of examples which are drawn from the film of Zootopis.The last part of the paper is the conclusion. In this part, the paper includes the findings of the study, the limitation of the study. Then it offers some suggestions on subtitle translation. As an important area in the communication between China and western countries, the author believes that this field will achieve more and more attention in the future at home.
