The three words “hai”(还),“zai”(再) and “you”(又) which are often used to express somekind of action or a situation which occured again and again, are all adverbs. Korean learners oftenfeel confused and not sure which one they should choose when they intend to express themeaning“again.” This is a universal difficulty for non-native language learners. Jin Lixin (2005) laysheavy stress on the“adverbs” when he refers to teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. Meanwhile,he emphasizes the analysis of synonymous adverbs is also an important teaching method because “ifwe do not compare and analyze these words, it becomes difficult to make out the nuances, for there isno ready-made literature available, especially about the function words.”Seemingly, the three words are all repeated adverbs and are used when the action or situationhappens repeatedly, but in fact, their usage is quite different in the Chinese language. No wonder thereare so many difficulties for Korean learners when they learn the three synonymous words. So far, there have been many famous papers and books which wrote about the repeated meaningof “hai”(还),“zai”(再) and “you”(又), and their contents have been very rich andcomprehensive.Indeed this is one of the difficulties for foreign learners to learn the grammar ofChinese. However, the number of Korean learners who can use the three adverbs correctlyisextremely small. This means that although the research is quite favourable, those articles were notso helpful for Korean learners as expected or seldomly profoundly used in education. It is not easy to explain the meanings of “hai”(还),“zai”(再) or “you”(又) and makestudents fully understand their usage merely by writing an essay. Perhaps this essay is similar toothers, which cannot make students completely understand the correct usage, but theauthor aims tosummarize the existing research papers and books in order to draw his/herown conclusions on thisbasis and make Koren learners feel easy to understand and know the appropriate usage of theseresearch papers. Firstly, the theoretical basis of this essay is research and linguistics. Secondly, theauthor personally designs a questionnaire to do the error analysis and the comparison of “hai”,“zai”and “you”. Finally, the author will draw a conclusion and extract some available and useful materialsfor class learning. This paper intends to give some help to Korean learners who are studying orplanning to learn Chinese.
