Baudrillard is a famous thinker and philosopher of contemporary France. He thought that the capitalist society he was in had been from community of dominated by the production to the consumer. Consumption was the dominant role of the society. The consumer society which was one of his early masterpieces took semiotics as the breakthrough point to scan and diagnosis the consumer society with a new visual angle.The key point was that the consumption was the consumption of symbols but not of the things.The essence of the consumer society was on the construction of the social status of people and the purpose is the pursuit of differences.Symbol consumption was used to explain all consumption.This paper explain the consumer society by the semiotics according to the book of consumer society on the basis of criticized theory of commodity society by Marx and alienation theory by Lukacs, Marcuse, and Lefebvre especially Barth. Additionally, we had studied the "consumer" and"the consumer society" of Baudrillard through criticizing the symbol society and comprehension to Baudrillard’s consumer society. The important role of the consumer society in solving human existence dilemma is clear through investigating the criticized logic of Baudrillard’s consumer society. Finally, the purpose of this paper is to discuss the relevant inspiration to the contemporary Chinese society after analyzing the value and limitation of consumer society.
