Countries are now studying and discussing more lively than ever with each other in terms of topics concerning the development of human society, among which "ending poverty and hunger" has always attracted intensive public attentions.This is an English-to-Chinese translation report based on a non-literary text Ending Poverty and Hunger by 2030:An Agenda for the Global Food System, a working paper which describes the current conditions of global food system and recommends measures to achieve the goal of ending poverty and hunger as regards. The author of this translation report analyzes the linguistic features of the text together with the difficulties beset in the course of translation. Besides, corresponding translation techniques are also discussed.In the chapter of "preparations", the report lays stress on the "understanding of the text" and "preparation before the translation". The author draws a conclusion that the text features a "standard language", underling the faithfulness to the content of the text as well as the understanding of its logics.The chapter of "difficulties and techniques" is the focus of the report, pointing out that the difficulties are the frequent uses of the terminology and nominalizations, long sentences and passive voice. To tackle them, the report has listed translation techniques including conversion, amplification, omission and repetition of words, and syntactic linearity and reverse translation as well as combination and splitting in paragraph translation. The main technique to translate sentences with passive voice is to maintain the subject and be faithful to the original meaning.Finally, the report discusses the experiences gained and problems to be solved, indicating that the improvement of performing translation techniques and access to various texts of different types are required to produce an ideal translation work.
