"Hu Shi Critique" Of Thought And Mentality Of Chinese Intellectuals

Hu Shi has a great influence upon the modern Chinese Ideological field.Due to complicated reasons,Hu Shi suffers serious criticial movement after the founding of The people’s Republic of China. This critical movement involves all aspects, but this thesis does not focus on all kinds of problems.This paper attempts to analyze the thought and mentality and their coping strategies and psychological state of Hu Shi Pai scholars in the course of their criticism of Hu Shi, analyzing intellectuals’ideas and thoughts on the frequent ideological transforming movement before the thought transformation.The first chapter describes the basic situation of the earlier criticism on Hu Shi. The first section to clarify "Criticism""Critical". The "criticism" refers to the opposition against Hu Shi by various intellectuals before the founding of PRC."Critical" still has a strong negative meaning and opponent color besides the meaning of "Criticism".The second Section focuses on analyzing the idea and strategy review of intellectuals when they write self-critical examination.The third Section clarifies critical events against Hu Shi analyzes the intellectuals’strategy in order to complete a critique of Hu Shi’s task,and also points out reasonable argument articles criticizing Hu Shi.The second chapter briefly analyzes the mind of Non Hu Shi Pai Scholars in the course of criticizing Hu Shi. The first section defines the concept of Hu Shi Pai Scholars, focusing mainly on academic heritage, namely in the scholarship to accept Hu Shi’s academic ideas and research methods, private intercourse is another very thick of the intellectuals. The second section and third section reveals the different state of mind of Hu Sheng and Xia Kangnong in the critical process by case analysis.Hu Sheng perceived the incorrectness of the critical movement and produced inner confusion whereas Xia Kangnong,with a soldier feelings, had little make a self-examination like Hu Sheng.The third chapter analyzes the mentality of the problem of Hu Shi Pai Scholars on the academic criticism of Hu Shi. This chapter chooses two scholars:Gu Jiegang, Yu Pingbo. In his diaries, Gu Jiegang revealed that he was tortured by the ideological transforming movement.Combining multiple materials, Gu Jiegang show equally difficult to go on or retreat suffer unspeakably dilemma. at this time,On one hand he had to cope with, on the other hand, he doubts transformation of thought way. Exhaustly, this motion take he a unfeeling; Although Yu Pingbo thought that Hu Shi should be criticized,he did not overdo. Besides, Yu Pingbo still have a empathy with Hu Shi which made him unhappy and worried. This chapter intends to show these mentality from critical text against Hu Shi and materials from other circumstantial evidence, and tries to demonstrate a clear vein for intellectuals mentality.
