The primitive decoration patterns of painted pottery, which were remained frompainted pottery, are brilliant stars in the sky of the traditional and modern art of ourcountry. Particularly, fish patterns are representative among these decoration patterns. There have been considerable research achievements about fish patterns that includelarge amount of unearthed relic, images and articles. Profound research on impacts ofprimitive fish patterns on the modern design has been conducted. However, there arevery few primitive fish patterns research focusing on the respective of plane formation, which is the basic modern design theory. Thus, research on formation factors, types andaesthetic principles of primitive fish patterns is studied from the new respective in thisthesis. In the beginning, the definition and introduction of plane formation aredemonstrated. Additionally, basic composition factors, primary types and aestheticprinciples of plane formation are stated. Further, the feasibility of research on primitivefish patterns based on plane formation theory is verified. Moreover, the key part of this thesis demonstrates the fundamental elements ofprimitive fish patterns, main types of their formation and their aesthetic principles byapplying plane formation theory. In detail, this thesis analyzes points, lines, planes, basicshapes and skeleton of primitive fish patterns and considers the influence of primitive lifeon composition progress of fish patterns when using basic elements. Also, this thesisanalyzes several main formation types applied to primitive fish patterns on which therewere the impacts of primitive thoughts. Finally, it studies the aesthetic principles of fishpatterns and states that the principles were influenced by original and primitive aestheticviewpoints. This thesis explains primitive fish patterns on the basis of aesthetic view in order toreach a rational recognization and make contributions to the traditional decoration patternresearch by using modern design theory, providing theoretical basis for the practice ofmodern ceramic decoration patterns.
