As a basic foreign language skill, translation plays an important role inenhancing students’ comprehensive ability and providing teachers with an effectiveway to impart language knowledge. Translation study consists of the theoretical studyand practical study, and the latter not only pushes forward the development oftranslation theory but also offers an aid to the college English teaching.Traditional translation approach centers on the grammar and readingcomprehension. Meanwhile, teachers’ attention is paid to the sentence structure andgrammatical rules but ignore the cultivation of students’ translation andcommunicative ability. Skopos theory focuses on the purpose and communicativefunction of the translation. Also translational action theory asserts that translation isnot only a social interactive action but also a communicative action. Furthermore, it isthe message-transmitter compounds. As a matter of fact, using translation as a tool toteach English is a kind of translational action, which should be guided under thetranslation theory. Hence, translation teaching under the guidance of translation theorycould attain higher teaching efficiency and get deeper understanding of the translationtheory.Translation approach, which is treated both as a means and as an end, has beenwidely used in the college English teaching. And college teachers often apply it intothe teaching for English majors and non-English majors. Through transferringbetween mother language and English, students find it easier to understand themeaning of the English texts. What’s more, teachers could save time and enhance theteaching efficiency.Art students are a special group with poor foundation in terms of vocabulary andgrammar in college, whose classroom English instruction often lags behind. There isoften a lack of sufficient context and communicative environment in their Englishclass. Teachers just read the translation of the text to help them to comprehend themeaning but not fully understand the features of Art students and their majors. In fact, they are open-minded and full of imagination and creativity. And they are moresuitable to the multimedia-based teaching method. Because the traditional teaching method concentrates more on the grammar and sentence structure, they often feelstressful and discouraged. And teaching demand can not be satisfied. Howevertranslation approach itself is fit for them, so it is necessary to find a suitable way toenhance the efficiency.Functional translation theory emphasizes on the “purpose”、“function”、“context” and “communication”. Translation approach to Art students under theguidance of functional translation theory is more improved and conforms to thecharacteristic of Art students. The thesis studies on the application of multimediatechnology and parallel corpus to the translation approach, aiming to enhance theircommunicative competence and translation ability so as to improve theircomprehensive ability. And the thesis makes a conclusion that under the guidance of functionaltranslation theory, translation approach to college Art students will become moreefficient with the help of modern tools and multiple translation teaching modes.Understanding the context, purpose and translation action will enrich the translationwhich is considered as a teaching method. And it is beneficial to promote theircommunicative competence and confidence so as to enhance their interests andmotivation.
