Ihe Translation Of Current Political Terms From The Perspective Of Functional Equivalence Theory

Since the reform and opening up, China’s international status in the whole world has been increasing greatly, its communication with other countries also becomes more frequent than ever before, so it is a necessity for China to shape a favorable and positive image in foreign affaires. As an important carrier for conveying China’s information and shaping its image, the importance of political topic translation has attracted more and more attention of translators, whereas, the accurate translation of current political terms, being as an crucial part, should be dealt with primarily in the process of political topic translation.Current political terms contain words and phases of political, economical, military aspects and so on, they often can be seen in speeches and discourses of the Party and state leaders, work reports and documents of government, other important circumstances. The three features(times, culture load and publicity) endow them with particularity different from other terms, so translators should deal with seriously in the process of translation, and avoid mistakes to the best of their ability. Although current political term translation has attracted much attention of many translators and achieved a comparatively satisfactory production, there are still some limitations because of its particularity. Lots of translators study the current political term translation from the concrete lexical or grammatical level with typical examples while lacking the efficient guidance in the theoretical aspect. Moreover, their study often published in magazines and periodical, there is no enough papers for research and learning, so my paper try to cause more attention of translators and scholars to the translation of current political terms.At the same time, in various kinds of translation theories. Nida’s functional equivalence has an instructing significance to the translation of current political terms, and the author further talk about formal equivalence, dynamic equivalence and functional equivalence. So combining practice with theory and basing on the theory of functional equivalence, this paper gives a comprehensive study of current political term translation.
