| Though there have been few studies discussing the translation of action words in English novels so far, we cannot deny its importance. Based on the translation practice of the novel Flipped and guided by equivalence principle, this paper, combining theory with practice, studies translation techniques of action words in English novels.With methods of documentary analysis, descriptive study, example analysis and experience summary, this paper describes and explains equivalence principle and types of action words, analyzes examples from Flipped, as well as concludes translation techniques of action words in English novels. Then the argument of the paper is demonstrated.First, this paper describes the development and meaning of equivalence principle and analyzes the internal relation between equivalence principle and novel translation; second, it classifies action words in English as verbs as well as nouns, prepositions and adjectives with action meanings, and describes each one respectively; third, taking the sentences in Flipped as examples and referring to the version translated by the author, it analyzes and demonstrates respectively the translation techniques-conversion of word classes, diction, addition and reduplication-summed up from the perspective of equivalence principle. In practical applications, the translation techniques are not isolated but with several used together sometimes. |
