Conveyance Of Aesthetic Effect In The Translation Of English Songs Into Chinese

The song is a kind of combination of language and music. Thesongs by itself convey its aesthetic information and arouse feelings withits own sentiments and aesthetic effect; this is the main aesthetic valueof the song itself. The translation of songs is quite different from that ofother practical writings. With aesthetic features, songs can bring singersand listeners aesthetic feelings; however, various kinds of presentproblems lead to much loss of beauty. Besides, the theoretical worksconcerning this area is much meager. Translation of English songs intoChinese has been studied from functional equivalence theory or thefunctionalism. Meanwhile, some translation strategies and principleshave been discussed. The author offers a new perspective–to studysong translation from the perspective of translation aesthetics. Thepresent research aims to seek possible ways to represent beauty intranslation practice. And the author wishes the thesis may have someenlightenment on the study and practice in this area，in order toimprove the quality of Chinese translation of English songs.Based on the translation aesthetics, some typical examples arecompared and analyzed. The present thesis discusses the conveyanceof aesthetic effect from four aspects respectively: the transformation ofrhyme, rhythm, words and sentence structures as well as other elementsof beauty (the translation of metaphor, simile, personification and slangwords in English songs are specifically discussed).Therefore, the present author suggests that translation aesthetics bea guide to future translation practice in order to meet Chineseaesthetic tastes.
