In study of two representative foreign Chinese sinogram-based teaching materials—"A Key to Chinese Speech and Writing" and "New Approaches to Learning Chinese", I found that they are different in the content, style, philosophy and other aspects, which reflect foreign Chinese sinogram-based teaching development for more than a decade. Therefore, I think it is necessary to conduct research on the development by this thesis.Two materials were published at a distance of twelve years."A Key to Chinese Speech and Writing" was published in1989, when Zhang Pengpeng, one author of this book, was teaching in France and attracted by the teaching approach based on sinogram-based from Sinologist Joel Bellassen. Zhang helped Bellassen to compose this book based on lecture notes. The book clearly put forward Chinese sinogram-based teaching approach, starting from sinogram and use400most frequently used sinogram as bases of Rudiments of Chinese language, then showing phrases and sentences. This style of editorial method for teaching materials broke long-term monopoly position of word-based teaching approach.1992, Zhang Pengpeng returned from France. He didn’t only make clear-cut sinogram-based teaching approach, but also tried it in his own teaching practice. With repeated trial and error, he finally published a set of the teaching material——"New Approaches to Learning Chinese" in2001. Accord with the sequence:"oral teaching—sinogram writing teaching—sinogram recognize and read teaching", it is divided into "Intensive Spoken Chinese","The Most Common Chinese Radicals" and "Rapid Literacy in Chinese", which reflected "separate language and article, language and the article separate in progress " teaching ideas and enriched the connotation of the sinogram-based teaching approach.As two representative teaching materials, they deeply reflected the essence and development of sinogram-based teaching approach by Zhang Pengpeng in his teaching practice. By comparing two teaching materials, we can effectively control development direction of sinogram-based teaching approach and offer some useful exploration for this approach. This article is composed of five big parts.Chapter One introduces the research findings for teaching approach of foreign Chinese and the research situation of "A Key to Chinese Speech and Writing" and "New Approaches to Learning Chinese".Chapter Two introduces the comparison of structure style for two teaching materials.Chapter Three introduces the comparison of written priciples and ideological for two teaching materials.Chapter Four:From the characters in two teaching materials,showed detailed comparison of the two sinogram-based materials.Compare the characters of two teaching materials with Chinese characters syllabus. Show the features comparative analysis of Chinese characteristic selected by two teaching materials.Chapter Five introduces the comparison of features and topics selection for two teaching materials.Chapter Six:With the combination of comparation of two teaching materials from structure style, written priciples and ideological, characters, features and topics selection and so on, we think of the development of sinogram-based teaching materials, look forward to the future of sinogram-based teaching materials editing and teaching practice.
