In the process of learning Chinese, Vietnamese students often encountermany grammar problems. The use of negative form is one of the grammarpoints that frequently cause Vietnamese people to make mistakes. Studentsmay find it is simple to work with them on theory first, but in practice thestory is different. This essay is based on the practice of the teaching, studyand comparison of words with negative meanings in both language systems.This is done through detailed description of the use of negative forms inmodern Chinese, especially Negative Words and rhetorical question and acomparison between Vietnamese and Chinese languages in order to guidestudents how to use them effectively. The research paper presents a literaturereview of previous researchers, analyses different negative uses in Chinese.From the comparison between this and the use of negative forms inVietnamese as well as the analysis of common mistakes that Vietnamesestudents often make, findings of possible reasons for the problems will bepresented. The study covers four parts.Chapter1: is an introduction of previous latest study of the use ofnegative forms in modern Chinese; presents purposes of the study, the scopeand subjects of the research.Chapter2: comprises of two parts. Part1describes and analyses distinctcovert responses which contains negative words “不、没(有)” and incovert responses in which negative form is used to convey a positive meaning.In part2, a study and comparison of negative forms in the two languages arecarried out from the analysis.Chapter3: analyses data from surveys on some common mistakes in theuse of Chinese negative words among Vietnamese students; point out thosemistakes and correct them.Chapter4: Some conclusions are drawn from the description, analysis andsurvey.
