A Study On The Word Order Of Modern Chinese Characteristic-Attributives

This paper attempts to make a study on the word order of Chinese attributives.lt consists of6chapters as follows:The first chapter focuses on the significance and current situation of studying of word order in modern Chinese attributive,and proposes research program of this article.Also pointed out the shortcomings of the existing research is that:(A)The studies of attributive word order as a whole seems more sporadic.(B)The classification of the attributive are either-or and tabbed so that an attributive in the different language environment can’t reflect the different semantic characteristics and usage,and thus directly affect its location.(C)Similar attribute subclasses within similar program research is still incomplete,especially thematic studies for characteristic-attributives.The second chapter focuses on attributive’s s sequence.According to the semantic affinities between attributive and central word, is divided attributives before the central word into three levels with in analysis:the1st lecel is affirmative-attributive and descriptive-attributive;the second level is dynamic-attributive and aspect-attributive;the third level is manner-attributive and characteristic-attributive.Chapter III focuses on the classes of characteristic-attributive.Characteristic-attributive is with adhesivity and centrality,and mainly has five categories:the di scrimination word,specific verbs,nouns,adjectives and numeral "1’Chapter IV focuses on the word order of characteristic-attributive’s associat ed interpretation.The current word order of characteristic-attributive is as follow s:numeral "1" always located in front,multi-syllable noun> discrimination word, discrimination word>verb/gerund, multi-syllable noun>verb/gerund,adjective>nou n.Predominant word order of multi-attributive is:numeral "1">adjective>noun> discrimination word>particular verb>monosyllabic noun> central word.Chapter V focuses on the word order of characteristic-attributives’associate d interpretation. The word order of Chinese characteristic-attributives is mainly governed by three principles:closen to the semantic, temporal sequence,increme ntal, reduction.Chapter VI focuses on the article summary.To sum up,this paper has mainly done the following researches:divide attri butives word order into different levels;discussed the word order of characteristi c-attributives;explain the characteristic-attributives word order of modern Chines e from the cognitive perspective.
