The same as the lexicalization of word,the history of the formation offour-character idiom also experienced process from free phrases to lexical units,but tofour-character idiom lack of diachronic system inspection. This paper studies theChinese lexicalization phenomenon closely related with the emergence anddevelopment of the four-character idioms,by ccombination method of synchronic andlasted,analysis and explain the evolution of the conditions behind four-character idiomslexicalization,restricting the evolution of motivation as well as the specific process oflexicalization.Finding out the four-character idiom generation is conducive to enhancingour understanding of the overall appearance of the Chinese Language.The introduction part mainly defines the research object of this pape, combs relatedresearch on four-character idioms, explains the books and research methods of the paperreference and shows those problems to be solved.In the first chapter we introduce the etymology of the Chinese four-characteridioms,which is the initial source of four-character idioms from the developmentevolution to setting.The four-character idioms’ etymology is myth legend, Classical,ancient poetry, religious texts, transformation form from proverbs and the new idiomfrom professional terminology, and the literary and artistic creation.How does the four-character idioms generalize from etymological? Four-characteridioms in the lexicalization process generally go through two stages: forming stageincluding from the etymology to etymology form of four-character freedom phrase andfrom etymology form to idioms; stereotypes stage means the process of furtherlexicalization from idiom to the four-character idiom.The second chapter and the third chapter study the process of four-character idiomlexicalization. This part determines form of etymology and the main way of etymologyform derivative: derive from the form which is combined by several components frometymology;derive from the freedom phrase; derive from the format to be embedded;derive from incorrectly using old four-character idioms; to create new forms of controlto the existing four-character idioms.This part analysis verbal variants that appear in the formation process of etymology form.In order to evolve into the idiom, etymologyform must get the conventional nature in high-frequency reproduce, and it can evolve ofidiom.Four-character idioms forming stage shows the following characteristics: theprocess of figurative sense forming; reference play a key role; form have a evolution tothe idiom; structure have a evolution from asymmetric to symmetry; disappear ofchanging order form. Four-character form only meet the structural forms of stereotyping,the significance of the double-layer and integrated, ready-made and conventional nature,and they can be considered a four-character idioms. Four-character idioms afterstereotypes still exist variant of language nature.The fourth chapter briefly discussed the deepening of four-character idiomlexicalization degree:The re-analysis of the internal form of four-character idiom,theconversion of the four-character idiom and the further lexicalization to two-syllableword are the performance of four-character idiom further lexicalization.Factors that affect the four-character idiom lexicalization mainly have syllablerestrictions, the formation of the form of etymology, semantic transformation, and highfrequency use.The psychology of blocks and analogy is the motivation restricting thefour-character idiom lexicalization.
