Chang di of Xiao Ya, which is abstracted from Shih Ching, is a cheerful song to express a feast of driking wine for brothers of the same clan.The paper tries to grasp the creation and gist of Chang di, then study the difficult words and things, and then we can unfold the political functions and cultural implicature of Chang di to peopleIn the circle of academy, it is believed that the song is created at the very beginning of Zhou dynasty or in the last years of West Zhou dynasty. On the basis of the scrupulous analysis of the resources of old times, combined with modern scholars’ opinions, it is safe to draw a conclusion in this thesis that it is accomplished in the last years of West Zhou dynasty, by the Great Minister Zhao mu Gong hu.As regrad for the gist of Chang di, there is a saying in the preface of Mao Poetry that goes like this:"Yan brothers.min guan cai zhi shi dao,gu zuo Changdi." A great number of scholars of the following generations think it is believable. As a matter of fact, it is created for the tensions in the same clan and conflicts between clans. In the dilemma, improving the brotherhood in the clan is urgent. Moreover, after checking out the text of Chang di and analyzing the gist of the song, it is that this saying is more reasonable."Min guan cai shi dao" loses its main idea, for the song is only for the kins, repeatedly states that "all the men in the world, there are none equal to brothers", and has nothing at all with guan cai。The diversed gist of Chang di make many scholars disputable in explaining some words in it. The thesis chooses three words—" e fu wei wei""yuan xi pou yi" and "he le qie ru".The most diputable words, and, in the light of philology, phonology and the new academic fruits of modern scholars, draws a new conclusion."e" in "e fu wei wei" is similar with "e", namely calyx;"fu", the feet of calyx。"pou"in"yu xi pou yi" should apply what Mao Heng explaines. It is understood as getting togerther."ru" in "he le qie ru" is happiness. There have been many articles about criticizing and explaining words in Chang di since Lu Ji completed Shu. However, the explanations of "chang di" and "ji ling" are being discussed and have an influence on the exploration of the main gist of the song. The thesis, on the one hand, checks out the names, shapes, qualities of the two words, on the other hand, dipicts the significand of bixing in the concrete context.In the Chapter six of Chang di,"bin er bian dou, yin jiu zhi yu" directly shows the nature of the feast. And what is the exact meaning and function of "yu" is checked out in the thesis. Fom its meaning and the members of the feast, brothers and their wives and children, the private ceremony of drinking wine is speculated. Chang di acclaims the brotherhood and emphasizes the kinship which endows itself with the political functions of uniting the clans and coordinating the relationships between the clans and with the ideal state of family happiness and life pleasure, transmitting the spirits of ritual. At the same time, the song praises the kinship between brothers and exemplifies the ethical ideology of filial piety and moral force. All in all, the song is of great cultural implicature.
