In the telophase of anti-Japanese war, most intellectual youth, who owned intensive patriotism andnational awareness, took part in the One Hundred Thousand Intelligent Youth Enlisting Movement startedby the national government for the complete victory, which had a great influence at that time and in thehistory of Chinese army founding. Besides some civil servants and teachers, these educated youth weremainly students from higher or middle schools among which the volunteering action of many female youth,as a favorite tale, was the precedent in the history of Chinese military service. As a group exempt frommilitary service, intellectuals are elites of our society, the backbones or nucleus of nation. Their actions ofrenouncing the pen for the sword were the models of Chinese people, which changed the stereotype of“Putting Mental Pursuits above Physical Arts” and to some degree, met the need of all people’sant-Japanese war. After the war, most of the youth released from the army and missed the chance ofAnti-japanese expedition and serving on the battlefields. However, their great contribution to the victory ofthe war cannot be ignored. This paper, except the introduction and conclusion, consists of three main parts. The first part, bycomparing domestic and international background, firstly reflected the tense situation of China to pave theway of the national government’s movement of joining the army. Then, the author illustrates the start ofenlisting, the formulation of relevant documents, and the government’s action led by Chiang Kai-Shek forthe movement. This part finally discusses the intellectual youth’s attitudes by different responses to themovement. The second part focuses on construction, training and releasing of the youth army. Firstly, it introducesthe source and training of military and political leaders in youth. Secondly, it discusses the standard andnumber of enlisting, organizational status, strategic position of camps, the content and effect of training, therelease after victory, the government’s arrangement, and their main distributions, etc.The third part tries to truly reflect and evaluate objectively this youth enlisting movement by discussingits positive aspect from improving the qualities of army, strengthening its force for the war, inspiring themorale of the soldiers at the front and the people at the back of the war, changing social morality, and helpto alleviate foreign critics, changes to the international audiovisual, and its negative effect caused by theaction that the authority forced the youth to join the Party or the League which went against most youthintention, and that a few youth soldiers impacted the whole image of educated youth army for their poorerqualities.
