In Chinese, classifiers (or measure words) are considered an independent word class. In modern Chinese, numerals and nouns must necessarily be linked by a classifier in the middle. Chinese classifiers are especially abundant, hence for most of the foreigners learning Chinese, mastering and assimilating the usage of these classifiers can be very difficult."What couple noun-classifier is supposed to match?","Under which conditions, using which classifiers is judged accurate?" This has all along been the headache of foreign students learning Chinese.Classifiers are widely used in ordinary Chinese and Korean languages. Using classifiers can be seen as a common feature between Chinese and Korean. Since Korean also has classifiers, then why is it that South Korean learners of Chinese still feel that classifiers are difficult to learn?Chinese/Korean classifiers, besides having a similar main function, have many differences in other aspects. Differences in meaning and usage in particular bring a lot of trouble to the learners and teachers of both languages.This study aims to, firstly, analyze the correlation between Chinese/Korean classifiers, and then, through survey analysis, analyze the acquisition difficulties and their reasons in learning Chinese classifiers for South Koreans in the Beginner/Intermediate levels. Finally, set up noun-classifier matching tables based on the "HSK lexical syllabus".Chapter1:includes a description of the background resulting in the choice of the research object, the research significance, and references to other related classifiers research and literature; Chinese classifiers categories, semantic research and noun classifiers research; Chinese as a Foreign Language classifiers research, concentrating on noun classifiers in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language and when targeting foreign students acquisition (this thesis limits the scope of research to noun classifiers, therefore it doesn’t explore in depth other types of classifiers); Chinese and Korean classifiers comparative research.Chapter2:the analysis of correlation between Chinese/Korean classifiers. First, we will refer to the existing research results, and then make a comparative analysis of related and unrelated Chinese/Korean classifiers. Chapter3:Survey analysis of noun classifier acquisition difficulties for South Korean Beginner/Intermediate learners of Chinese. The research is mainly conducted through questionnaire survey method; the objects of the survey are naturally South Korean Beginner/Intermediate Learners of Chinese. The survey results and their statistical analysis will outline the reasons for the difficulties when learning classifiers and for South Koreans, and a suggestion of appropriate teaching materials to use.Chapter4:presentation of noun-classifier matching tables based on the "HSK lexical Syllabus". Until today, there are no noun-classifier matching tables available to facilitate the learning of Chinese, so this chapter uses statistical analysis of the "HSK lexical Syllabus" to create noun and classifiers matching tables.Chapter5:the final chapter is a conclusion based on the comparative analysis and survey analysis of the Chinese/Korean languages, also elaborating the purpose of the present study and its deficiencies.The use of classifiers is one of the characteristics of the Chinese language, but is also an important difficulty for non-native Chinese speakers learning Chinese. From a South Korean perspective, there is hope that the noun-classifier matching tables this paper establishes can make it easier for foreign learners of Chinese to master classifiers, and also that these tables can provide a reference to Chinese teachers. There is also hope that the research and analysis of the causes of errors South Korean students make in using Chinese classifiers will be helpful in providing South Korean students targeted classifiers teaching, but also will bring some help to the Chinese teachers.
