Study On Mi Fu’ Aesthetic Ideology And Calligraphy From Gusto

Mi Fu (1051-1107), who was a calligraphist, painter and theorist in Chinese Nothern Song Dynasty, was an expert in calligraphy of clerical script, etc. His writing outlined him sharing the fame of one of the "Grand Four Calligraphists in Song Dynasty"The first part of this thesis will start from the backgrounds at Mi Fu’s time by analyzing the outer and inner circumstances that Mi Fu’s "Gusto" aesthetic idea came from as well as the particular calligraphic style which was affected by this idea. The "brushing" style that advocated by Mi Fu himself refers to his prompt, energetic, joyful and effective writing, aiming the charm, vigor and strength of "brushing", and the pursuit of natural formation.Finally, I will discuss the profound influence of Mi Fu’calligraphy and aesthetic idea in the history.Mi Fei’s calligraphy achievement is outstanding, his influence is very far-reaching, the calligraphers and calligraphy influenced by Mi Fei more than the stars. Even in modern times, the calligraphy of Mi Fei still has many followers.
