This report is based on the author’s practice of translating the Youth Park Community’s Application for Renewed Membership in WHO’s Safety Communities Network. There are five parts in the report, which mainly discussed the difficulties the author encountered and the different methods and strategies the author adopted during the translation.In the report the author first briefly introduces the whole translation task and then he analyzes the language features of the source text with focus on the Culture-loaded Expressions and Long Sentences, which are also the most difficult parts during the translation process. The body of this report is devoted to the different translation strategies employed by the author when translating different kinds of culture-loaded expressions and long sentences. Guided by Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory, the author illustrates the different translation strategies with the examples from this translation practice. Meanwhile, the author also gives some cases which need further polishing. In the last part, the author summarizes the whole report and offers some suggestions to those translators who may encounter the similar source text in the future. |
