In recent years,with the development of globalization,more and more Chinese films and TV programs have found their way into the international stage,chief among them costume dramas,with their exquisite costumes and props,concise lines and unique oriental characteristics,which have won global reputation.Because of loads of words and expressions with Chinese characteristics in lines and restrictions on the limited space and time of subtitles,the translation strategies of culture-loaded expressions used in the subtitles of Chinese costume dramas are different than those in other kinds of texts.This paper will discuss the translation strategies of culture-loaded expressionsin TV series from the perspective of functional equivalence.The author chose the subtitle translation of Nirvana in Fire,a costume drama and also a hit in overseas market,as the research object.In terms of the classification of culture-loaded expressions by Nida,the author will analyze the translation skills used in this drama and summarize the translation strategies of culture-loaded expressions in subtitles,trying to contribute to the overseas spread of Chinese films and TV series.
