Since60s of last century, there are lots of research on Chinese topic structure. In recent years, it comes up with some research on the application of modern Chinese topic structure in second language acquisition, which considered that to bring the research on topic to teaching Chinese as a foreign language would be meaningful and could be an important element in the reform of teaching Chinese as a foreign language’s grammar system. Some research on teaching Chinese as a foreign language deem that, oral Chinese teaching for foreigners should not emphasize on grammar, but skills of communication, and bringing topic structure to the teaching could fade the grammar training.This thesis agree that Chinese is a Topic-priority languages. Topic is a word in a specific position of syntactic structures, which has its own communication function. Chinese topic structure has the following characteristics:it has topic and sub-topic; there are many elements could be topics; it offers a starting for conversations,offers index of semantic dependency and offers registers for its rheme. According to the topic’s kripke semantics, Chinese topic could be classified into five types.Base on the analysis on the topic distributed situation in a representative text book of oral Chinese teaching for foreigners, this thesis research the specific matters of application of Chinese topic structure in oral Chinese teaching for foreigners. According to those, this thesis summarizes the topic teaching methodology, consisting of the form method, paper method, context method and sentence expansion method. The topic teaching method could fade grammar training, pay more attention to language sense’s training, etc. But it could not apply through the whole oral Chinese teaching, or completely take place of grammar training. In addition, it ask for good teachers.It could write an oral Chinese text according to different topics. The topic teaching methodology can also apply to the Chinese reading teaching for foreigners.
