Impact Of Client’s Requirements On Translaters In Linguisitic Services

As a translation-producer in the linguistic service industry, it is essential to know thatwe do translation for the satisfaction of client’s requirements. Everything we do is tomaximize this satisfaction. Then how do client’s requirements influence our translationpractice in linguistic services. This article attempts to answer this question with a casestudy on the translation of training materials for IKEA armchairs’ salesmen. Firstly, it givesa brief introduction to the purpose of translation and client’s requirement-orientedlinguistic services. Then, by comparing the differences between the initial and thesubmitted versions of translators and the reviewed version in this translation project, theimpact of client’s requirements on translation strategy, translation solutions and judgingcriteria is explored. Finally, it gives some practical suggestions to new-comers of linguisticservices as a translator.
