With more frequent international exchanges, the market is in great demand of interpreters.Research on undergraduate interpreting education has been fueled since the NationalForeign Languages Teaching Advisory Committee incorporated interpretation class intoEnglish Syllabus and Ministry of Education set up undergraduate translation andinterpretation program (T&I major). Previous studies have put more stress onundergraduate interpreting education as a whole, lacking systematic discussion oncurriculum field.Based on a case study at Dalian University of Foreign Languages, this thesis describesthe curriculum design of English (T&I) major from the aspects of subjects, credit hours,teaching syllabus, textbooks and class management and explores factors influencingcurriculum design through structured interview and qualitative analysis, which includesociety, knowledge structure, student competence and school environment.The author then conducts a descriptive study through students’ feedbackquestionnaires on the effectiveness of the curriculum design of English (T&I) major. Thestudy follows4steps: firstly, the questionnaires are divided into4parts: overalleffectiveness, effectiveness of humanistic courses, effectiveness of language courses andinterpreting skills. Secondly, pilot survey is conducted to ensure reliability and validity andmake necessary adjustment of questionnaires afterwards. Thirdly, the study is carried outamong junior and senior students of English (T&I).Finally, the results are analyzed throughquantitative analysis.
