Within only a short historical span, translation studies is an interdisciplinarysubject which has been continuously developed and standardized with adoptions oftheories and outcomes from relevant fields. The source text of this translation project,In Other Words–A Coursebook on Translation, was written for translation learners, inwhich an effective translation training system was introduced, a number of exampleswere detailed and translation theories were explained through linguistic approaches. The first two chapters and section3.1is the specific translation object, i.e., theintroduction, equivalence at word level and equivalence above word level. If onebook’s theory is explained by another subject’s theoretical knowledge, to some extent,it is not easy to realize a good translation effect. Adopted by relevant knowledge oflinguistics, the translation subject explained words and phrases of translation theoryand practice, and also involved a great deal of knowledge and terms of non-translationfield. Thus, the report introduced the translation process systematically, and focusedon summarizing the translation methods and techniques as well as thoughts gainedduring the translation process. The report boils down to four parts, i.e., projectdescription, task process, case study and conclusion. The first part elaborated on thefeatures of the original text and its process of selection. The second part describes thepreparation work for translation, including background knowledge accumulation, technical support and translation theory acquisition, as well as timing and qualitycontrol. Case study is the third part in which typical words and sentences areexcerpted to explain the translation methods used by the translator. The final part is asystematic conclusion of the whole translation project. This paper aims to helpChinese students and translators better understand and study translation.
