This article specifically describes the modal particles of Haiyang dialect based on the results of investigation conducted on Haiyang dialect and Shandong dialect. It mainly focuses on the syntax and sentence category and briefly introduces the phonetic system of Haiyang dialect.The thesis is divided into six chapters:Chapter One makes a brief introduction of history, geography, anthropogeography of Haiyang. It also generalizes an overview of previous studies on the mood words, the modal particles and the modal particles of Haiyang dialect and explains the research purpose, significance and organization of the research.Chapter Two describes the phonetic system of Haiyang dialect. It briefly presents the characteristics of Haiyang dialect on the onset and the rime as well as the matching-up of the onset and the rime.Chapter Three mentions the scope of the modal particles of Haiyang dialect. It mainly introduces the definition and classification of the mood words, puts forward the theoretical foundation about mood words with regard to this paper, and clarifies the scope and the number of the modal particles of Haiyang dialect.Chapter Four explores the syntax studies of the modal particles in Haiyang dialect. It introduces the distribution of the modal particles in the systactic perspective and introduces the phenomena that the modal used together and their distribution.Chapter Five investigates the function of modal particles in Haiyang dialect. It mainly identifies the basic sentence types and describes the modal particles in Haiyang dialect in terms of their distributions. It also describes the modal particles whether there are aspectual meaning or not.Chapter Six describes the conclusion of this thesis. It makes a conclusion about the findings and shortcomings about this research.
