One important target of curriculum reform of basic education in China is to changethe ubiquitous situation of students’ passive acceptance of knowledge and advocateinquiry-based study with active involvement of students. It calls for students’ practice toenhance the sense of inquiry and innovation, acquire scientific ways of study anddevelop the skill to comprehensively apply knowledge.Art education is one of the core curriculums in vocational education. More andmore people realize the unique function of art education in promotion of humandevelopment. Enquiry-based teaching has a positive practical significance in changingthe situation of vocational students getting slack at art education and cultivating talentwith overall development. Enquiry-based teaching shows the principal position ofstudents and emphasizes the active involvement of students. It has a well-designedteaching plan with proper material and teaching arrangements to guide the teachingprocess and improve students’ aesthetic value which benefits the overall development ofstudents. This thesis studies current research of enquiry-based teaching at home andabroad and reaches the conclusion that it is necessary to start inquiry-based teaching invocational art education. It also focuses on the study of vocational teachers’ role andfunction in enquiry-bse teaching. Only when teachers realize the importance ofenquiry-based teaching and their role and function will the teaching method bepromoted.
