Up to now, the research on the word "gen" in modern Chinese is mainly focused onthe aspect that "gen" as function word. Lots of scholars at home and abroad expoundedmany complex problems subtly, such as the part of speech of "gen"; the predicate in theGen-sentence; the method and standard to distinguish that "gen" is a conjunction or apreposition and so on. They obtained great achievements and enriched the theory of thegen-sentence greatly, all of these achievements promote the further development of thegen-sentence in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.On the basis of previous research results, through a large number of data analysis,this thesis sums up five types of the gen-sentence: S1:NP1+gen+NP2+VP;S2:NP1+gen+NP2+VP+O;S3:NP1+gen+NP2+AP,S4:NP1+gen+NP2+(Bu)Shi,S5:NP1+gen+NP2+(Mei)You. With the help of valency theory,the thesis does an in-depth analysis andresearch on the syntactic constituents of every kind of sentence and sums up the grammarfeathers of the predicate which could enter the gen-sentence, explicits syntacticconstituents and syntactic types are corresponding relationship.By means of data analysis,the thesis sums up eight kinds of semantic types of gen-sentence: interactive justice,complete justice, targeted meaning, obtain justice, comparison of righteousness,figurative meaning,, meaning of existence, relationship of righteousness. The thesiselaborates the semantic orientation of "Gen" in the gen-sentence, and combines with thetheory of image schema,,sums up the two basic sematic types: the meaning of sentencewith targeted or not. The thesis also studies the part of the speech of word "Gen", Fromthe syntactic, semantic, pragmatic three angle to discuss three methods that to distinguishthe conjunction "gen" and proposition "gen": marker determination method, semanticexclusion method, pragmatic distinction method. Using corpus, the thesis sums up fiveerror patterns that often appear when the foreign students learn the Gen-sentence:omission,misuse,mix use, sentence combination, sequence order. At last, according to theerror patterns, combines with the ontology theory of gen-sentence, the thesis discussesthe new methods of gen-sentence in teaching Chinese as a foreign language: Storystructure mapping method and Semantic orientation teaching method.
