A Skopos Theoretic Approach To E-C Translation Of Stock News

It is a remarkable fact that the development of China’s stock markets has a closerrelation with the foreign stock markets. In the backdrop of the economic globalization,the Chinese policy-makers, shareholders, and investors should have a simultaneousawareness of the on-going situation of the world stock markets so as to make urgent andwise decisions. On the other hand, they also need to learn the foreign opinions oranalyses on Chinese stock markets so as to make suitable changes. Therefore, the foreignstock news is of great value.Although more and more Chinese people have the knowledge of English, they stilllack the capability to understand the English stock news thoroughly, for the expertise andspecialized knowledge in the stock markets as well as the unique characteristics ofEnglish stock news which are quite different from the literary texts in English. Inaddition, the Chinese stock news readers are from all circles, differing in academic andsocial backgrounds. It is unlikely for them to read the English stock news directly.Under such circumstances, the E-C stock news translation is in dire need. However,the current situation shows there still lack sufficient researches on the E-C stock newstranslation. The translation on stock news has not raised enough attention and thetranslation quality of E-C stock news is not that ideal. In view of this, the author intendsto have a tentative exploration of the E-C stock news translation on the solid basis of theSkopos Theory.This thesis has six parts. Part one is a general introduction. In Chapter one, on thebasis of the former research of E-C stock news translation as well as the theoreticalstudies on the Skopos theory, the author come up with her own thoughts on E-C stocknews translation. Chapter two analyzes the unique characteristics of English stock newsfrom four aspects. In Chapter three, the author strives to point out the characteristics ofE-C stock news translation. Chapter four tries to apply the Skopos theoretic approach tothe E-C stock news translation and put forward some suggestions on translationstrategies. The last part summarizes the whole thesis and makes a conclusion.
