Self-imposed delay of gratification, being the kind of choice orientation to foregot immediate gratification for the sake of more valuable delayed outcomes, and the ability of self-control shown during the waiting process. Scholars in the developmental sciences have focused on how self-control and self-regulation develop in infants and young children for some time (Kopp,1982). Kopp’s seminal work identified the early infant-caregiver attachment and reciprocal ralationship as key in understanding and foretelling the development of self-control or self-regulation and how this process shifts from being external to the infant to being internal to the child. Delay of gratification of the domestic researches concentrate on3to5years old for normal children and adults, but focused on the ability of Mentally Retarded Children of this ability is still rare in China. Whether these children have this ability, and the development and cultivation of this skills meaningfully? Based on this, discussing the delay of gratification of Mentally Retarded Children has important theoretical and practical significance. This article combinated the experimentation and questionnaire, Selected47children with moderate mental retardation in special schools, a considerable proportion of boys and girls, and24matched normal children with the same intellectual age. And using the classic paradigm of self delay of gratification of doing the following:1.Showing pictures and physical of stimulation under different scenarios to analyze the behavior and capacity of children with moderate mental retardation meet the characteristics of delay. Using three factors3×2×2completely randomized experimental design, independent variables were the subjects age groups (low, medium, high), gender (male, female), stimulus presentation (real or pictures), the dependent variable is test waiting time delay.2.Investigate the time and strategies during delay procession of the same mental age of intellectual and mental retardation in children.3.Discuss the influence between the styles of parenting on chileren’s and ability of delay.Based on the above studies’ results analysis and discussions.the main conclusions are drawn as follow:1.The children of moderate mental retardation have the ability of delay of gratification. Its development lagged behind normal children. Age has significant influences to the ability of the development of delay and which in the middle grades wait the longest time of delay, and its decreased to the high grade.12to14years old is the most self-important period in delay of gratification of Moderate Mental Retardation children,That is also the critical period of education and training of mental retardation to form the concept of self-control.2.The gender has the impact on waiting time of delay in Moderate mental retardation of children.3. Stimulus presentation (real or pictures) has significant effects of the children of moderate mental retardation in delay ability. The delay time of real awards is shorter than the picture’s.4.Compare with the same mental age of intellectual normal children, difference of the time of delay was not significant with mental retardation. However, the delay strategy with less frequency.5.Different parenting styles and delay strategies had a certain relationship, authoritative parenting styles and meaningless strategies used have very significant correlation, while the democratic type of rearing style and attention strategies, or internal conflicts there is significant policy relevance.
