Australia is the first English-speaking countries around the world to develop the multilingual policy, the number of primary school students learning Chinese in Australia is also increasing rapidly. Under these conditions, in recent years, the Chinese teaching in South Australia has witnessed a great development. The overall primary school education system in South Australia is advanced. But it is undeniable that since the history of Chinese education in South Australia is fairly short, at this stage there are many problems to be solved.From2011to2012, the author visited the South Australian Education Department and16primary schools in SA, and distributed questionnaire among principals, Chinese teachers and students in5primary schools. This paper analyzes the Chinese teaching mode of South Australian primary schools, points out the current problems and provides three solutions.The paper is divided into six parts, including four chapters, plus introduction and conclusion.The introduction is about the reason and the significance of selecting this topic, the research objects and methods.Part1introduces current research of Chinese teaching in primary and secondary schools of Australia and explores the disadvantages of the research in this field..Part2introduces the background of Chinese teaching in SA primary schools. First, the paper briefly explains the Australian National Foreign Language policy; second, the paper analyzes the current SA foreign language syllabus for primary and secondary schools after the visit to SA Department of Education.Part3summarizes general characteristics of SA primary schools after the visits to16SA primary schools. The paper then records the observation of two schools (MA and WF) Chinese classes.Part4summarizes the questionnaire feedback from principals, Chinese teachers and students of5schools. The paper then proposes solutions and suggestions to SA Department of Education, school decision-makers, domestic textbook writers and local Chinese teachers.Conclusion summarizes the innovations of the study, and the aspects that need to be further improved.
