A Research About Chinese Textbooks In Victorian Schools In Australia

The core problems of teaching Chinese as a foreign language aremainly divided into three problems, namely the teachers, teachingmaterials and teaching methods. This paper discussed is the promotionof Chinese textbooks in Australia. I have the honor in2012as a Chinesevolunteer in Vitoria (here in after referred to as Victoria) in a publicschool assist the Chinese teaching work there, after nearly a year ofexperience and thinking in the process of Chinese teaching materials,discovered in Australia is a remarkably prominent problem, mainly insuch aspects: The first is there are less indigenous materials comparedwith those in the United States, Japan, South Korea, we can see thesignificant differences. The second is we domestic materials inAustralia happened to "the climate does not suit one." which means ourteaching materials are not suitable for their habit of teaching mode, donot meet the students’ interest point. So the fate of the domesticmaterial was either being abandoned or transformed. Then, on our point of view, how to write Chinese textbooks they would love to use? Theauthor thinks, should first understand their background, and tounderstand another group of people, is to understand their culture.Know nothing at all of its culture, but also make up for their teachingmaterial is not possible. Secondly, to study their habits of the teachingmode, the teaching material itself is suitable for that kind of teachingmode without modification. Starting from this point, the author does thefollowing research while work in Australia, such as the culturalcharacteristics of Australia, Australian students’ interest, the teachingmode of Australia, Australian Chinese textbooks, the Australiangovernment’s attitude on the promotion of Chinese language, trying toput forward several suggestions about compiling the optimum Chineseteaching materials on the base of that.（see it from the sixth section）...
