School bel canto education, is a crucial factor that determines our country’s status in vocal music on the international arena and exerts profound influences on China’s bel canto development. As the basic driving force to promote our social modernization, the reform and opening up not only exerts profound and-all-round influences on our politics, economy, culture and social life, etc but also provides a macro environment and a platform for the development and prosperity of China’s music education. Against such a backdrop of reform and opening up, school bel canto education undoubtedly go through various changes. Therefore the school bel canto education in this period is of special significance.With the reform and opening up as an opportunity to sort out, the paper combs the historical sequence of the school bel canto education between1978and2000in China. Citing the bel canto education at the professional and normal universities as examples, the paper focuses on the analysis of and research on the bel canto education statuses in different periods and at different stages. This paper mainly consists of4chapters. The first chapter reviews and summarizes the school bel canto education between1949and1978, which can be subdivided into two stages, namely, the exploration and construction stage between1949and1965and the stagnation stage between1966and1978.The paper focuses on the school bel canto education development after reform and opening up and analyze its development and characteristics of each period in the remaining three chapters, highlighting the main characteristics of school bel canto education, including education principle, faculty, talent training mode, teaching material construction, and teaching achievement as well as the era characteristics of school bel canto education at different stages.After the reform and opening up, China’s school bel canto education mainly goes through such three stages as the recovery and development stage, the prosperity and the rise stage, and the pluralistic development stage in the new era. The reform and opening-up policy is the driving force of the promotion of China’s bel canto education.Only against the background of the times, can a better and deeper understanding of the historical development of China’s bel canto development be grasped and a deep insight into its essence and laws is gained with the exploration of people’s ideology, and changes in people’s aesthetic concepts. It is hoped that the paper can serve a bridge linking the preceding and the following in the school bel canto development in China.
